Phillip G. Wilkinson, 69, of Chanute, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center.

He was born on March 28, 1943 in Great Bend, to Raymond and Bernice Elliott Wilkinson. On Dec. 1, 1963 he married Kaye Simek in Cuba, Kan.

He was a member and served as a deacon at the First Presbyterian Church in Chanute.

Phil helped his son-in-law manage the Iola American Legion Baseball for several years. He also coached his children and families baseball and softball teams and was a member of the Chanute Bit and Spur Saddle Club. Later in life he loved being involved in all of his grandchildren’s activities and going to the Neosho County baseball and basketball games. He liked to fish and socializing at the coffee shop with his friends.

He is survived by his wife, Kaye Wilkinson, of Chanute; one daughter, Jodi Hoffman and husband, Tim, of Iola; grandchildren, Blake Hoffman of Manhattan, and Morgan Smith and Keatin Herder of Wichita; three brothers, Paul Wilkinson of Augusta, Ga., Larry Wilkinson of Clay Center, and Ronald Wilkinson of Kidder, Mo; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, John Wilkinson; his parents; one sister, Wanda Rhine; and two brothers, Donald and Dale Wilkinson.

The family will receive friends this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church

Memorials in his name may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Chanute and may be left with the funeral home.
