Glenice Kay, 81, of Chanute, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013.

Glenice was born in Chanute on Dec. 21, 1931, the daughter of Orlin and Bertha Kepley Hoffman. She graduated from Chanute High School in 1949. She attended Neosho County Community College after high school, taught for a year and then moved to Denver, Colo., where she worked for United Airlines. She later returned to Chanute where she worked at Walmart until her retirement.

She loved fishing, gardening, writing, and traveling.

Glenice is survived by her son, Michael Kay and wife, Jean, of Chanute two daughters, Kathleen Miller and husband, Robert, of Midlothian, Texas, and Kelly Gilbert and husband, Michael, of Fort Worth, Texas; seven grandchildren, John Harris of Weir, Jessica Paloian of Virginia, Emily Miller of Austin, Texas, Patrick Kay of Chanute, Hannah Miller of Midlothian, Texas, Matthew Kay of Chanute, and Madison Gilbert of Fort Worth, Texas; and one great-granddaughter Mariah Harris of Weir.

She was preceded in death by one son, Jeffery Kay, her parents, and one sister, Dorothy Gorrell-Huffman.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4 until 6 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel.
