Lyle K. Cuppet, 98, a former Erie resident, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013 at the Prairie Mission Retirement Village at St. Paul where he has resided for the past seven months.

He was born on Nov. 4, 1914 at Erie to Winder and Lettie Sower Cuppet. He grew up in the Odense area and attended country schools and graduated from Savonburg High School in 1935. He attended a Chanute trade school in 1936.

He worked at the Kansas Ordnance Plant for a few years and then worked at the Neosho Valley Creamery for 28 years until his retirement in 1981.

He and Mildred Gerhard were married on Nov. 23, 1946 at Parsons. She preceded him in death on Dec. 27, 1998.

He was a member of the Erie Lodge A.F. & A.M. No 76 and the Erie Federated Church. He enjoyed gardening.

His survivors include a son Darrell Cuppet of Erie; three grandchildren, Marcia Warstler and her husband, Craig, of St. Paul, Kristen Paulie of Parsons, and Brian Paulie of St. Paul; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his daughter, Janice Paulie, three brothers, and two sisters.

Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21 at the Erie Federated Church. Burial will follow in the East Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Erie from 6:30 to 8 Sunday evening. Friends may call the funeral home after 1 p.m. on Sunday.
