Leonard George Carlson, 94, of Chanute died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013 at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute.
Leonard was born in Vilas on Dec. 20, 1918, the son of George Eli and Lennea Elizabeth Benson Carlson. He graduated from Vilas High School in 1936.
He was united in marriage to Winona Cormack on April 11, 1948 in Abilene. She preceded him in death on July 22, 1997.
Leonard was a farmer all of his life.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, a Sunday School superintendent, a church Deacon, a member of the Vilas Cemetery Board, and was a Pleasant Valley Township trustee and assessor.
Leonard is survived by two sons, Kenneth Carlson and his wife, Kathy, and David Carlson and his wife, Mary Sue, all of Chanute; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Winona, two sisters, Marjorie Whitworth and Irene Tharp, and one brother, Bill Carlson.
Cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21 at the First Baptist Church in Chanute. Inurnment will follow in Vilas Cemetery.
Memorials in his name may be made to the First Baptist Church in Chanute or The FireEscape Coffee House and may be left with the funeral home.
