Richard “Dick” Coykendall, 86, of Humboldt, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013 at Midland Care Hospice House in Topeka.
Dick was born August 26, 1926, on the family farm south of LaHarpe, the son of John O. and Ruth Winscott Coykendall. He grew up on the farm and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1944.
On Oct.11, 1953, Dick married Janice Clements at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt. They always made their home in Humboldt where they raised their six children and later divorced.
Dick was a BMA Insurance agent for many years and later sold real estate. After his retirement, he drove a bus for Tri-Valley Developmental Services.
His memberships include St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and Humboldt Lions Club.
Survivors are his six children, Doug Coykendall wife, Lezlie, of Topeka, Cindy Eggers of Topeka, Jeff Coykendall and wife, Gayla, of Kansas City, Sandra Raney of Topeka, Laura Thompson and husband, Terry, of Talala, Okla., and John Coykendall of Salina; 20 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Frances White.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m.this evenning at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt.
Funeral is 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt.
Burial will be in LaHarpe Cemetery.
