Ronald James Courter, 56, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, in Chanute.

He was born Dec. 28, 1956, in Wichita, the son of Billy Gean and Joetta Marie Morrison Courter. He attended Chanute schools.

He was united in marriage to Mona Bockover on July 3, 1987. They later divorced.

Ronnie was a welder, oilfield worker and over-the-road truck driver. He enjoyed fishing, motorcycles and playing pool with his friends.

He is survived by his father of Chanute; his daughter, Hali Renee Courter, son Corky Lee Genn; a sister, Karen Hickman and husband, Frankie, of Chanute; and two brothers, Bradley Courter and wife, Betty, of Lowell, Ark., Gary Courter and wife, Susan, of Chanute; three grandchildren, Emily Sanchez, LexLee Sanchez and Piper Goss.

He was preceded in death by his mother, brother, Billy, and grandson, Oran Adam Perkins Genn.

It was Ronnie’s wish to be cremated. The family will receive friends for a celebration of Ronnie’s life at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12 at New Life United Brethren in Christ Church, 500 N. Forest Street, Chanute.

The family requests that friends consider donations to the American Legion Riders of Chanute. These may be left at the funeral home or mailed in care of the funeral home.
