Werner Louis Fischer, 101, LeRoy, died on Friday evening, Dec. 7, 2012, surrounded by family, at the Coffey County Hospital in Burlington.

He was born on Sept. 12, 1911, in Nashville, Kan., to Carl and Bertha Knuth Fischer. From Nashville, his family moved to Texas and then New Mexico, returning to Kansas in 1928, where, with the exception of a short duration in California, he remained.

On August 17, 1947, he and LuElla Gleue, were married, at the St. John Lutheran Church, in Aliceville.

He was an active member of the St. John Lutheran Church, in Aliceville, where he served in various capacities. He worked at assembly plants, an oil refinery, and on numerous construction projects, including the John Redmond Reservoir, U.S Hwy 75, LeRoy Grade School, Westphalia Catholic Church, and the Iola hospital. Along with this, he also farmed. Over the years his beautiful woodcrafting became an eagerly anticipated gift for his children and grandchildren.

He was baptized on Sept. 24, 1911, at the St. John Lutheran Church, in Nashville. He was confirmed on March 28, 1926, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Optimo, N.M.

Werner was preceded by his parents, two brothers, Arthur and Lorenz, and a sister, Garnnet Fischer.

He is survived by his wife LuElla Fischer, LeRoy; two sons, Glenn Fischer, Oswego, and Lyle Fischer and his wife, Dayle, LeRoy; five daughters, Mary Schmidt and her husband, John, Mt. Hope, Alice Archer and her husband, Ed, LeRoy, Rhonda Scott and her husband, David, Lawrence, Twila Theimer and her husband, Phil, Topeka, and Lynnette Bollinger and her husband, Tim, Emporia; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; other relatives and friends.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Aliceville. The family will meet with friends Thursday evening from 6 p.m.. until 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in the St. John Cemetery. Contributions may be made to St. John Lutheran Church, and may be sent in care of Jones Funeral Home, P.O. Box 277, Burlington, KS 66839.
