Edith Lorene Lucke, 83, of Chanute, formerly of Humboldt, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2012 at the Heritage Health Care Center in Chanute surrounded by her family.

Edith was born in Cheyenne, Wyo., on April 16, 1929, the daughter of William C.C. and Vera Mae Manhard Bade. She was the oldest of 11 children. She graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1948.

She was united in marriage to James Lucke on August 31, 1949. He preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 1985.

Edith was a homemaker, wife and mother. She also worked as a cook in the Nowata Nursing Home for several years.

Although she had a visual impairment, she loved to crochet, making doilies, sweaters and blankets for her children and grandchildren. She also loved to dance to the musical entertainment at Heritage and she loved to laugh and give hugs. Her greatest pleasure was her faith and her family.

She is survived by two sons, Mike Lucke and his wife, Jodi, of Chanute, and Pete Lucke and his wife, Jerrie, of Humboldt; a daughter-in-law Linda Lucke of Chanute; grandchildren, Melissa Larson and her husband, Joe, Gilbert Haynes and his wife, Angela, Denys Morris and her husband, Brad, Kelli Bowin and her husband, Travis, Tyson Lucke and his wife, Lesley, Griffin Lucke and his wife, Kelly, Troy Lucke, Steven Lucke and his wife, Tara, and Scott Lucke and his wife, Nicole; great-grandchildren, Derek, Jacob, Triston, Tylr, Cody, Kylee, Logan, Quinten, Carter, Mark, Chuck, Breckin, Brady, Ashlyn, Tyler, Cooper, Evan, Kenady; and several siblings.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James, three sons, Richard Lucke, Phillip Lucke and Frank Lucke; a granddaughter, Krista Lynn Lucke Haynes; a grandson, Richard Lucke Jr.; and a great-granddaughter, Shelby Haynes.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, Dec. 6, from 1 until 2 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel in Chanute. There will be a procession at 2 p.m. to Memorial Park Cemetery for graveside services.

Memorials in her name may be made to Heritage Health Care Activity Fund and may be left with the funeral home.
