Esther Elizabeth Maloney, 88, Humboldt, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute.
Esther was born Nov. 3, 1924, at Winterset, Iowa, the daughter of Archie and Lottie Johnson Rockwell. She came to Kansas with her family in a covered wagon.
On May 20, 1942, she married William R. “Russ” Maloney and they made their home in Iola before moving to Humboldt. He preceded her in death May 7, 1988.
Esther worked for Miller Dress Factory in Iola for 32 years and then for Walmart for 18 years before retiring. She just recently moved to Neodesha to be near family.
Survivors include a son, William E. “Bill” Maloney of Humboldt; four daughters, Barbara Stalnaker of Iola, Evelyn Knapp of Yates Center, Betty Nicolay of Baldwin City, and Brenda Gutierrez of Neodesha; a stepson, William R. “Bill” Maloney, Jr. of Yachats, Ore.; a stepdaughter, Jerry Thomas of Dover, 21 grandchildren and a number of great- and great-great grandchildren
She was also preceded in death by a grandchild, Christopher Clements, and great grandchild, Britni Proctor.
Cremation has taken place.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola.
Inurnmment in Highland Cemetery, Iola.
