On Oct. 17, 1954 at the Altoona United Methodist Church, Margaret was united in marriage to Floyd Arthur Russell. He preceded her in death May 26, 2011.
Margaret was employed at the Garment Factory in Chanute for a few years but spent most of her life helping Floyd operate the family farm, being a homemaker and mother to their five children.
She was an active member of the Altoona United Methodist Church and current chairperson for the church Trustees, as well as a past member of the United Methodist Women. Margaret was involved in the Altoona United Methodist Food Pantry, a founding member of the Altoona Days Association, and a past member of Eastern Star. She was a wonderful cook and seamstress, making prom dresses and wedding dresses for her girls. She also loved working in her vegetable garden and caring for her plants and flowers.
Margaret’s survivors include five children, Debra Meigs of Altoona, Linda and Roosevelt Rogers of Parker, Colo., Patricia Russell of Chanute, Michael and Kim Russell of Altoona, Kathy and Larry Klauman of Chanute; two sisters, Dorothy Varner of Benedict, Mary Larkin of Chanute; a brother, Eugene Green of Chanute; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Margaret’s parents; son, Mark Alan Russell; and brothers Larry Green and Clifford Green preceded her in death.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24 at the Altoona United Methodist Church with Pastor Jose Miranda officiating. Burial will be in the Altoona Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, 5 p.m.-7 p.m. at Timmons Funeral Home in Fredonia. A memorial has been established in Margaret’s name for the Altoona Methodist Food Pantry and contributions may be sent to the funeral home.
