Jeane Orton, 82, of Chanute, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012 at Chanute Health Care.

Jeane was born in Erie on May 7, 1930, the daughter of Frank and Annie Fleming Mitchell. On Nov. 26, 1953 she married Jimmie Orton in Erie. He preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 2011.

She worked in the ASC office in Erie and at the Chanute Livestock Auction. In addition to her jobs she farmed in Stark with her husband, Jimmie.

Jeane is survived by one son, Frank Orton of Meridian, Idaho; one daughter, Annie Prather; six grandchildren, Steve D. Finley, Dustin Finley, Nick Finley, Justin Orton, Amber Newberry, and Clayton Orton; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Roy Mitchell, Joe Mitchell, and Fred Mitchell, and five sisters, Mabel Daugherty, Viola Foster, Tara Lee “Bob” Jones, Elma Hazen, and Mary Blasengym.

A memorial service for her and her late husband, Jimmie, will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5 until 6 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel.
