Edward Calvin Cobb, 84, of Chanute, formerly of Walnut, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2012 in the Heritage Heath Care Center in Chanute where he entered in December of 2011.

Calvin was born Nov. 30, 1927 on the family farm at rural Lamar, Mo., a son of George W. and Mary E. Cochran Cobb.

n 1936, when Calvin was 7 years old, the Cobb family moved to a larger farm in Kansas and Calvin attended the Liberty Country School in Bourbon County.

Calvin married Mary Regina Schreuer on June 10, 1946 at Marysville, and they lived on the farm at rural Walnut for 65 years. 

Calvin and Regina loved their farm life and he, like his father, believed in caring for and improving the ground. He was a farmer for 74 years.

Calvin enjoyed fishing and his favorite hobby was playing music. Calvin sang and played rhythm and bass guitar with three country and western dance bands for more than 45 years. He was a member of the Old Time Fiddlers and Pickers.

Survivors include his wife, Regina, of Chanute; a son, David Cobb of Chanute; his sisters Mary Elizabeth Lyons of San Jose, Calif., Anna Lou Inman of Walnut, and Estella Ruth Buck of Girard; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Charles E. Cobb on March 6, 2001, a brother, George Howard Cobb, his brothers-in-law William Inman and Don Buck.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 34 at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Pastor Rick Prideaux and the Rev. Pete Smith officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery. Friends may call after 10 a.m. today at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home.

Following the committal services a luncheon will be served at the Raymond Community Home at 301 S Osage Street in Girard for friends and family.
