Marjorie Evelyn Cook, 81, longtime resident of Chanute, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012 at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute.
Marjorie was born in Benedict on June 9, 1931, the daughter of Leroy and Lena Varner Lewellen. She attended schools in Benedict.
She was united in marriage to Freddy Cook on Nov. 17, 1950 in Chanute. He preceded her in death on Oct. 29, 2009.
Marjorie worked as a records clerk at Ashley Clinic until she retired in 1996.
She was an avid bingo player and bowler, and volunteered at the snack bar at the Neosho Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W.
Marjorie is survived by two daughters, Pamela Cole and her husband, Randall, Hoyt, and Sherry Welch and her husband, J.B., of Neosho, Mo.; grandchildren, Shawndee Knight, Stanton Cole, Alaina Welch and Austin Welch; great-grandchildren, Grace, Corynn, Abigayle, Ethan, Conlan, Cole, Hutson and Lennox; and two sisters, Virda King and Virginia Lewis, both of Fredonia.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1 at the First Christian Church in Chanute. Burial will follow in the Altoona Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
Memorials in her name may be made the Guest Home Estates II and may be left with the funeral home.
