Maria Aurora Verdin, 92, of Chanute, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012 at the Chanute Health Care Center.

Aurora was born in Cherryvale on August 3, 1920, the daughter of Eleno and Grace Carillo Ruiz.

She was united in marriage to Jacinto Verdin. He preceded her in death in April 2004.

Aurora was a homemaker and volunteered at the St. Patrick Bargain Store in Chanute.

She is survived by a daughter, Martha Martinez of Spring Hill; a son, Michael Verdin of Bartlesville, Okla.; grandchildren, Maria Martinez of Shawnee, Melissa Beck of Spring Hill, Sonja Lang of Overland Park, Kris Cusumano of Olathe, Chip Martinez of Olathe, Michael Verdin of Flower City, Texas, and Steven Verdin of Chanute; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Ysusi of Independence; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jacinto, seven sisters, three brothers, and one great-grandson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chanute. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery.

Rosary will be recited on Wednesday at 10 a.m. prior to the Mass.

Memorials in her name may be made to the St. Patrick Catholic School and may be left with the funeral home.
