Ruby Abbott, 88, Erie, died Thursday, August 30 in the emergency room at Labette Health. She had been in failing health.
She was born Feb. 14, 1924, in Burrton, to Abe W. and Sara Heidbrecht Riffel. In 1939, her family moved to Erie. As a young girl she attended Don Dodds Country School and later Erie High School.
On May 11, 1941, she and C. Vern Moore were married at the First Christian Church in Erie. Through the years, the couple farmed until moving to Erie in 1975. He preceded her in death on April 11, 1977. On Dec. 24, 1982, she and Earnest N. “Bill” Abbott were married at the Erie Baptist Church.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Erie.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Abbott, of the home; a son, Charles Moore Erie; two daughters, Beverly Simmons, Erie, and Nancy Holding, St. Paul; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in East Hill Cemetery in Erie. Friends may call at their convenience after 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
