Donald E. Duff, 89, Chanute, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute.

Donald was born on May 8, 1923, in Cowley County, the son of George Lester and Hazel Marie Steiner Duff. He graduated from Shallow Water High School near Scott City in 1941.

He was united in marriage to Erma Lucille Graham on May 6, 1944 in Scott City. She preceded him in death on Nov. 30, 2010.

He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II where he was a member of the 48th SeaBees.

Donald was a farmer and cattleman all of his life. After retirement he and Lucille traveled selling Harper Brooms and Brushes. They later traveled across the country with friends and family.

He was an active member of Thayer Christian Church for more than 60 years. He served as an Elder, Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and led Bible studies with Lucille.

Donald is survived by his children, Judy Osborn and her husband, David, Thayer, Linda L. Hughes and her husband, Bill, Thayer, Becky J. Hastings and her husband, Rick, Olathe, and Greg D. Duff and his wife, Kathy, Thayer; son-in-law, David Troutman; 13 grandchildren, Tyler Troutman of Independence, Matt Troutman of New Bedford, Mass., Justin Troutman of Pittsburg, Clay Osborn of Thayer, Kimberly Osborn of Chanute, Liston Hughes of Thayer, Kelly Rhue of Asbury, Mo., Amie McMillen of Chanute, Paul Hughes of Chanute, Hunter Hastings of Chanute, Stacy Henson of Chanute, Benton Duff of Chanute and Michael Duff of Kansas City, Kan.; and 27 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lucille, a daughter, Beverly Troutman, two sisters, Arlista Grube and Audrey Young, and a brother, Charles Duff.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 8 at the Thayer Christian Church. Burial will follow in Thayer Cemetery.

The family will receive friends this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel in Chanute.

Memorials in his name may be made to the Thayer Christian Church and may be left with the funeral home.
