Basil Earl Swalley, 65, died at his home in Chanute on Friday, August 3, 2012.

He was born Jan. 24, 1947, in Maryville, Mo., the son of Joseph and Nellie Thompson Swalley. He graduated North Nodaway High School, Hopkins, Mo.

He was united in marriage on Feb. 4, 1978, with Janice Vassar Swalley, in Maryville, Mo. She survives, of the home. Basil and Jan made their home in Chanute for 20 years.

Basil was a longtime cable television professional, and had served as a cable system technical supervisor.

He is survived, in addition to his wife, Jan, by his daughters, Kim Swalley, Humboldt, Amber Swalley, Chanute, two granddaughters, Janae and Kaitlyn Bartlett; and a sister, Ardith Zion, Maryville, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends this evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, Chanute, and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 8 at the Price Funeral Chapel, Maryville, Mo. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 9 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Maryville, Mo.

Memorials in his name may be made to Autism Speaks and may be left with the funeral home.
