Violet Marie Prichard, 93, a longtime resident of Fredonia, died Thursday, May 10 at her daughter’s home in Chickasha, Okla,, where she had resided for the past two years. She was born March 21, 1919 in Yates Center, the daughter of James Isaac and Henryetta Pauline Miller DeCou. Violet was a graduate of Toronto High School, She was employed by USD 484 for 22 years as a school cook, retiring in 1985.

On Nov. 30, 1939 in Fredonia, Violet was joined in marriage to Curtis Prichard. He preceded her in death Nov. 9, 1963.

Violet was a member of the First Christian Church.

Her survivors include three daughters, Patricia Hilyard, Fredonia, Linda Blevins, Chickasha, Okla., Marcia Bulla, of King, N.C.; one sister, Helen Kitterman, Derby; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren.

Three grandchildren, Alexis, Zachary, and Mercy, preceded her in death.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. today, May 15 at the First Christian Church in Fredonia. Burial will be in the Fredonia City Cemetery. A memorial has been established in Violet’s name with the First Christian Church and donations can be sent to Timmons Funeral Homem PO Box 168, Fredonia, KS 66736.
