Alva W. Boice, 91, longtime resident of Fredonia, died Thursday, April 5, 2012, at Fredonia Regional Hospital.  He was born Feb. 26, 1921, in Rover, Mo., the son of David and Cora Davis Boice.
In 1938, Alva enlisted in the U.S. Army and became a member of the Horse Cavalry assigned to Fort Riley. In September, 1942, Alva re-enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the 5th Armored Division, tank corps. He was captured by the German army in North Africa and transported to Europe where he was a POW for more than 26 months.
Upon his discharge from the Army on Oct, 5, he became self-employed in Fredonia as an interior designer and carpenter and engaged in those professions until his retirement in 1982.
Survivors include one sister, Oneta Boice, Fredonia, and several nieces and nephews and close friends.
Services will be held Wednesday, April 11, at 10 a.m. at the Timmons Funeral Home Chapel, Fredonia. Burial will follow at the Howard Cemetery in Howard.
