Robert Auten, 67, Chanute, died Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at Harry Hynes Hospice, Via Christi Medical Center, Wichita. Robert was born in Tulsa, Okla., on October 14, 1944 the son of Jack and Thelma Welch Auten. He attended Broken Arrow, Okla., public schools.

On March 7, 1970, he was united in marriage to Cora Jussell in Harrison, Ark. They made their home in Chanute since 1996. She preceded him in death.

Robert worked as a landscaper, and was an avid fisherman, boater and camper. When these activities were not possible, he enjoyed watching wrestling, and building model cars.

He is survived by his daughters, Sheila Scism, Okmulgee, Okla., Thelma Peterson and husband, Danny, Iola, Teressa Sentell and husband, Brandon, Fisk, Mo., Tonya Auten, Chanute; two sons, Michael Auten, Springfield, Mo,, and Brandon Auten, Forsythe, Mo; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother; Jimmy Auten and wife, Carolyn, Skiatook, Okla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Cora, two brothers and one sister.

The family will receive friends on Monday, April 2, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. It was Robert’s wish to be cremated, with private scattering, at a later time.

Memorials in his name may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, and may be left with the funeral home.
