Marjorie Ruth Dennis, 87, Overland Park, died Thursday, March 22, 2012.

Graveside services will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute on Saturday, April 14 at 11 a.m.

Marjorie was born on Dec. 6, 1924, in Chanute, to Ralph and Genevieve Elliott Filson. She married William R. Dennis in 1943 who preceded her in death in 2007. She had been a resident of the Kansas City area since 1949. While living in Wyandotte County, she was an active member of the Wyandotte United Methodist Church and she also enjoyed helping with elections in Wyandotte County.

She was an accomplished quilt maker, seamstress and loved arts and crafts. Many say that her work was art. She was active in her support of her two sons’ education. She delighted in relating her connection to cousin, Ralph Miller, who is inducted into National Basketball Hall of Fame, coaching at Wichita State, Iowa and Oregon State.

She is survived by her sister, Martha Tredway; her two sons, Raymond E. Dennis, and Robert K. Dennis; granddaughter; Lauren Dennis; stepgranddaughters Melinda Overstreet, Alyssa Randall, four stepgreat-grandchildren; three nephews, Charles A. Tredway, Nicholas A. Tredway, Thomas L. Tredway, and two nieces, Shirley Froebe and Susan Stover.
