Elizabeth Emma French, 88, Fairview, Okla., formerly of Thayer, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday afternoon, January 20, 2009 at the Fairview Fellowship Home in Fairview.

She was born March 18, 1920, near Quinter to Charles Sydney and Minnie Ellen Jamison Williams. She grew up and attended school near Quinter. She resided in Utah, Colorado, Idaho, Oklahoma, and California before moving to Thayer.

She and Wayne Hathaway French were married on Oct. 31, 1937, at Manzanola, Colo. He died on March 21, 1991.

She was a longtime resident of Thayer and a homemaker. She also worked part-time at the Brooks Floral Shop.

She was a member of the Thayer Christian Church where she participated in a Ladies Bible study group. She enjoyed making quilts and homemade bread for people.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Nora and Roy Lane, Everett, Wash., Warren Wayne and Doris Jone French, Rose Hill, Nancy and Herb Nelson, Fairview, Okla., Wendell French, Longdale, Okla., Jerry and Katt French, Forsyth, Mo., Susan and Gene Cox, Thayer, and Keith and Lisa French, Longdale, Okla., as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two granddaughters, two grandsons and a daughter-in-law.

Funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Thayer Christian Church. Burial will follow at the Thayer Cemetery under the direction of Carson-Wall Funeral Home, Parsons.

Friends may call the funeral home at their convenience.

I remember the family, moving to Thayer in 1971, and Elizabeth worked at the Cafe, which was then still owned by Hap and Lois Bowers, with my mom. Elizabeth was a tall, dignified looking woman and a very nice person.
