Bryan Phil Schlegel, 59, rural Elk City, died unexpectedly on Friday, January 9, 2009, at Mercy Hospital in Independence.

He was born March 23, 1949, in Wichita to Alvin J. and Clara Yost Schlegel. He was a 1967 graduate of Campus High School in Wichita and received a bachelor’s degree in industrial mechanics from Fort Hays State in 1972.

He has been employed as a boat tester for Cobalt Boats in Neodesha for seven years.

On Jan. 15, 1971, in Mt. Hope he married Judy Hall. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Jan Mills, Eureka, and Kristy Poe, El Dorado; a son, Travis Schlegel, El Dorado; three brothers, Jerry Schlegel, Joplin, Mo., Dean Schlegel, Wichita, and A.J. Schlegel, Rose Hill; a sister, Karen Armstrong, Wichita; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Church in Oak Manor, northwest of Fredonia. Burial will be in Reece Cemetery under the direction of Timmons Funeral Home, Fredonia.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home with the family receiving friends from 5 to 6 p.m.
