Mildred Elizabeth Allen, 97, Bronson, died Monday, April 11, 2011 at the Moran Manor Nursing Home in Moran. She was born Dec. 1, 1913 in Birch Tree, Mo., the daughter of John Robert and Emma Alice Morrell Baugh. She married Chester “Chet” Allen on June 8, 1933, in Eminence, Mo. He preceded her in death in 1981. She kept busy raising their family and helping as Chet worked on area farms. She worked for the grocery stores in Redfield and Bronson. In 1970, she began working for Mercy Hospital in Fort Scott as a cook. She retired after 10 years in 1980. Mildred had a great talent for embroidery, quilting, crocheting, and sewing. However, her love in life was dancing. She was a member of the Polka Lovers of America polka club, Kansas chapter. She was a member of the Bronson United Methodist Church.

 Survivors include one son, John Allen, Mapleton; one daughter, Bonnie Trowbridge and husband, Ray, Desert Hot Springs, Calif.; one sister, Velma Keffer, Council Bluffs, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and 27 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Chet; one son, Willie Allen; one daughter, Betty Garman; four brothers and five sisters.

The Rev. Rusty Newman will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April, 19 at the Cheney Witt Bronson Chapel. Burial will follow in the Bronson Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Cheney Witt Bronson Chapel. Memorials are suggested to Moran Manor and may be sent to Cheney Witt Bronson Chapel, PO Box 93, Bronson, KS 66716. Words of remembrance may be submitted to the online guestbook at cheneywitt.com.
