Walter Scott Meeker, 92, Erie, died Friday, March 11, 2011 at the Baldwin Rehabilitation Center in Baldwin City. He was born November 7, 1918 in Chanute, the oldest son of Walter R. and Hazel Scott Meeker. His childhood years were spent both in Fort Scott and on the family farm south of Erie along the Neosho River.

He graduated from Erie High School and was drafted into the armed forces in August of 1941. He served 49 months in the United States Army Air Force during World War II.

After the war, he returned to Erie and married Mariellen Bradley on April 18, 1948 at the Erie Federated Church. After retiring from Boeing in 1975, they returned to the family farm in Erie.

Walter was a member of the First Baptist Church of Derby and the First Baptist Church of Parsons.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; six daughters, Scotty Flower, Tulsa, Okla., Sally Brimmer, Broomfield, Colo., Margie Marian, Lansing, Betsy Prior, Wichita, Cindy Cox, Udall, Amy Berg; son-in-law, Perry Bohrer, Erie; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter Judy Bohrer.

Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 16 at the First Baptist Church of Parsons. Burial, with military honors, will be at the Odense Cemetery north of Erie.
