Maurice was born in Chanute on April 22, 1935, the son of Stafford Stevenson and Florence Lillian Walker Hale. He graduated from Chanute High School in the Class of 1953.
He worked as a professional dry cleaner from age 14 until age 26. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Ash Grove Cement Company for more than 30 years.
Maurice was united in marriage to Patricia L. Mitchell on May 10, 1956 in Iola. She preceded him in death on May 20, 2008.
He is survived by three sons, Maurice “Mo” Hale, Jr., Olathe, Douglas Hale, Chanute, and Patrick Hale, Parsons; three grandchildren, Andrea Hale, Allie Hale and Mitch Hale; and two brothers, Stafford Hale, Vallejo, Calif., and Gordon Hale, Henderson, Nev.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Patricia, a son, Mitchell Hale, and a sister, Phyllis Wade.
Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date.
Memorials in his name may be made to Cherry Street Youth Center and may be left with the funeral home.
