Phillip Richard “Phil” Brazil, 63, Dillon, Colo,, and longtime resident of Chanute, died at Kansas City Hospice Home on Tuesday, March 8, 2011,

Phil was born in Chanute on July 16, 1947, the son of Christopher and Eurith Brazil. He graduated from Chanute High School in 1965 and served in the Kansas National Guard.

Phil was a loving and dedicated father to his devoted daughters, Melissa and Camilla, from his marriage to Teresa Welch Brazil from 1969-1991. He married Rebecca Naff Brazil in 1993.

Phil spent most of his life in the agriculture and livestock industry. He began his career with Sears as a manager. He worked with his father to help manage and operate Benedict Rock and Lime Co., along with raising cattle and registered quarter horses. He then owned and operated The Feed Store in Chanute for 12 years. His talents and people skills flourished in sales and management for the following companies as Territory Manager – Mann Pro and Ranch-Way Feed and as Western Regional Sales Manager for seven years with Eagle Pack.

Phil enjoyed traveling the outdoors with family and friends. He enjoyed playing golf in numerous places with long time friends and family. He was an avid skier and taught lessons at Keystone, Colo. As a cyclist, he rode in many tours, including the Triple Bypass, Ride the Rockies, the MS150, Elephant Rock and the Octoginta.

Family was very important to Phil. He returned to Kansas often to visit his father, daughters, grandchildren and other family.

Phil is survived by his wife, Rebecca, of the home; two daughters, Missy Hutton and Cami Jones of Overland Park; five grandchildren; his father, Chris Brazil, Chanute; six siblings, Tom Brazil, Manhattan, N.Y., Judy Brazil, Lawrence, Steve Brazil, Wichita, Dan Brazil, Chanute, Lucinda Gormley, Olathe, and Christina Knowles, Lawrence.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Eurith Brazil.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 14 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chanute. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery.

Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Memorials in his name may be made to Kansas City Hospice House and may be left with the funeral home.
