Edith Birdell Rodgers Wiley, 94, homemaker and retired Methodist pastor’s wife, died Sunday, March 6, 2011. Edith was born in Newton on April 28, 1916, the daughter of Charles Leroy and Emma Holdeman Rodgers.

Edith graduated from Newton High School. She married Ira Wiley in 1940.  Ira worked for Santa Fe Railroad in Newton, Chanute, and Emporia, until he resigned and entered the ministry. He died in 2008.

She attended Trinity Heights United Methodist Church.

She is survived by four sons,  David of Park City, Sam of Houston, Texas, Jon of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Tom of Topeka; and one daughter, Ruth Solon, Park City; nine grandchildren: 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; a sister, Zeta Rodgers Brandt, Laverne, Calif.;  a brother, Keith Rodgers, San Antonio, Texas.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Newton Church of the Brethren, 520 Columbus, Newton. Visitation: 1-9 p.m. Thursday, family available 6:30-8 p.m., Peterson Funeral Home, 215 N. Main, Newton. Memorials are suggested to Newton Church of the Brethren and Trinity Heights United Methodist Church, Newton.
