Laura Kaye Coltrane, 25, rural Humboldt, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2011 at Olathe.

Laura was born August 19, 1985, in Iola, the daughter of Douglas Arthur and Cheryl Ann South Coltrane. She grew up on the family farm northeast of Humboldt. In 2003, Laura graduated from Humboldt High School with a 4.0 grade average. She continued her education with a science degree from Allen County Community College and completed the radiologic technologist program at Labette Community College.

Laura has worked as a para at the Humboldt Middle School and part-time at Anderson County Hospital in Garnett. For the past year, she has been employed by Medics in Kansas City working in the College Park Family Clinics.

Laura was a member of the Humboldt United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed texting and talking on the phone with her friends, listening to music and spending time with her nephew, Cole.

Survivors include her parents, Doug and Cheryl Coltrane, rural Humboldt; a sister, Megan Anderson and husband, Todd, rural Humboldt; nephew and niece, Cole amd Haylie Anderson; grandparents Leonard and Mary South, rural Iola; aunts and uncles, Carol Wagner, Independence, Mo., Carol Olson and husband, James, Albuquerque, N.M., JoAnn Clum and husband, Dwight, Springfield, Mo., and Jerry Coltrane and wife, Ann, Elmhurst, Ill.; seven cousins and 18 second cousins.

She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Andrew Richard Coltrane, and grandparents, Arthur and Evelyn Coltrane.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 24 at the Humboldt United Methodist Church. Burial will be in LaHarpe Cemetery, LaHarpe. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola.

Memorials are suggested to Hope Unlimited or Allen County Animal Rescue Foundation (ACARF) and may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola.
