Orville “Jack” Leon Umbarger, 99, Thayer, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011 at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute.

Jack was born in Earlton on March 21, 1911, the son of Harry and Bessie Miller Umbarger. He attended Brewster School and Thayer High School.

He was united in marriage to Eula Watt on Nov. 25, 1935 in Las Vegas. She preceded him in death on June 27, 2006.

Jack worked as a heavy equipment operator.

He is survived by his children, Colleen Ferguson, Fredonia, Lynn Umbarger and his wife, Karen, Wichita, Sue Harding, Thayer, and Janis Snavely and her husband, James, Thayer; 16 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 33 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Holly, Atohl, Idaho, and Betty Bolinger, Altoona.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eula; an infant son, Merwyn Gale; two granddaughters, Janee Umbarger and Janae Johnson; two sons-in-law, Charles Ferguson and Richard Harding; two sisters, Beulah Osborn and Thelma Kapple; and two brothers, Kenneth Umbarger and Harold Umbarger.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22 at the Thayer United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Thayer Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time at the church.

Memorials in his name may be made to the Thayer United Methodist Church and may be left with the funeral home.
