Maxine Flora Hamill Baker, 89, Chanute, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011 at the Pinecrest Nursing Home in Humboldt.

Maxine was born in Chanute on Dec. 28, 1921, the daughter of Thomas Floyd and Marie Daisy Sawyer Hamill.

Maxine became a nurse very early in life, working in nursing homes until her retirement.

She is survived by four sons, Floyd Eugene Moody and his wife, Cheryl, Enid, Okla., Jerry Dennis Williams and his wife, Sandy, Paul Dean Williams and his wife, Charlene, and Robert Ernest Williams and his wife, Brenda, all of Chanute; one daughter, Hazel Marie Moody Gonzales, Meeker, Colo.; 19 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and one brother, Robert Ernest “Bob” Hamill, Laughlin, Nev.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents, Robert Abraham and Nancy Jane Jones Hamill and Ernest Eugene and Daisy Mae Cox Sawyer; two sisters, Flo Hamill Hurt and Wanda Hamill Pherigo; one son, Glen Lowell Stipp; and two grandsons, John Gerald Williams and Willie Georgiou.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19 at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel in Chanute. Burial will follow in the Earlton Cemetery.

The family will receive friends this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel.

Memorials in her name may be made to the American Red Cross and may be left with the funeral home.
