Donald Wayne “Don” Gibson, 74, Chanute, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011 at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute.
Don was born in Topeka on Feb. 12, 1936, the son of Edward R. and Frances Leatherman Gibson. He attended Shaw and Chanute Schools.
He served his country in the National Guard.
Don was united in marriage to Joyce Haskins on June 20, 1969 at the First United Methodist Church in Chanute. She survives, of the home.
He worked as a custodian at Neosho County Community College and the V.F.W. until his retirement.
Along with his wife, Joyce, Don is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth DeEtta Gibson and Iris Sue Gibson Strack and her husband, Mike, all of the home; six grandchildren, Austin Strack, of the home, Jenell Strack, Logan, Utah, Anthony Brewer, and Jessie Brewer and his wife, Sarah, all of Miami, Okla., and Areanna and Alex Robinson, both of Chanute; one great-grandchild Anakin Brewer, Miami, Okla.; three brothers, Eddie Ray Gibson, of Oklahoma, Stan Gibson and his wife, Jackie, and Steve Gibson and his wife, Barbara, all of Andover; and a sister, Judy Sisco, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 14 at the First United Methodist Church in Chanute.
Memorials in his name may be made to Sons of the American Legion for the Veterans Memorial and may be left with the funeral home.
