Maxine M. Porter, 96, Chanute, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2011 at her home.

Maxine was born on July 21, 1914 in Fort Wayne, Ind., the daughter of Frank and Zella Miller.

She was united in marriage to Charles D. Porter on April 26, 1940. He preceded her in death on Jan. 21, 1976.

Maxine is survived by a son, Charles D. Porter, Gainesville, Fla.; a daughter, Cynthia Magner and her husband, Irvin, Chanute; a granddaughter, Christine Perkins and her husband, Rich, Wellsville; great-granddaughters, Abigail, Emma, and Ingrid Perkins, all of Wellsville. She is also survived by her faithful companion, Sorin.

There will be no formal funeral service.

The Salvation Army and Castaways Animal Shelter and Sanctuary were two organizations dear to her heart.

Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Cynthia, your mom was a special lady to me. It was so easy to like her and enjoy time spent around the table. My start in quilting came from your mom and you, and I think of it often.
