Lewis Darrell Barnett, 90, Humboldt, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010 at the Pinecrest Nursing Home in Humboldt.

Lewis was born in Humboldt on Sept. 5, 1920, the son of Lewis Dewey and Cecil Jones Barnett. He graduated from Humboldt High School in 1938.

He served his country in the United States Army during World War II.

Lewis was united in marriage to Erma Josephine “Jo” King on Sept. 30, 1945 in Humboldt. She preceded him in death on Dec. 8, 1998.

He was a brickmason and a member of the International Bricklayers Union.

He received an Excellence of Craftmanship in the Art of Brick Masonry Award on Sept. 12, 1958 from the Kansas Chapter of American Institute of Architects.

Lewis is survived by a son, Don Barnett and his wife, Maggie, Iola; a daughter, Marila Barnett, Chanute; grandchildren, Darrin Barnett, Iola, Angie King, Farmington, Mo., Mandy Boeken, Gas, and Levi Palet, Chanute; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold Barnett, Humboldt; and a sister, Jean Webb, Plattsburg, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jo, a son Darrell Barnett in June 1970, an infant son Johnathon Barnett, and a sister Doris Hack in January 2010.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3 at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Humboldt.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Humboldt Chapel.

Memorials in his name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and may be left with the funeral home.
