Barbara Jean Waggoner, 76, long-time Erie resident, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010 at the Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.
She was born Dec. 7, 1933 at rural Erie, a daughter of Cecil Allen and Viola M. Blaine Fisher. She was raised at Erie and attended school there, graduating from Erie High School. She managed the Land of Ahs Motel at Erie for 25 years. In 2008 she moved to Chanute to be with her daughter and worked at Faith House.
On June 23, 1951 she and Walter C. Waggoner were united in marriage. He preceded her in death on January 12, 1981.
She was a member of the Erie Federated Church. She was also a member of the George L. Hendricks Post 102 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, reading and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Jim Waggoner, Liberty, Mo., Todd Waggoner and his wife, Kristin, Calgary, Alberta; a daughter, Jayne Haines and her fiancée, George Taylor, Chanute; five grandchildren, Evan Waggoner, Calgary, Alberta, McKenna Waggoner, Calgary, Alberta, Karma Wright, and her husband, Derrick, Joplin, Mo., Kyra Rink, and her husband, Cole Cabot, Arkansas; Karla Haines, Pittsburg; three great-grandchildren, Atley Wright, Joplin, Mo., Wyatt Rink, Cabot, Ark.; Westin Rink, Cabot, Ark.; a sister, Marilyn Whitworth, Clifton, Texas.
Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8 at the Federated Church, the Rev. Larry Jordan officiating. Burial will be in the East Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. this evening at the Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Erie Federated Church or to Faith House.
