Maline Charlton Prest, 90, died at Labette Health in Parsons on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010.

She was born in Birmingham, Ala., on May 9, 1920, the daughter of Guy W. and Minnie D. Brannan Charlton. She was reared in Yazoo City, Miss., by her grandparents Walter and Mary Brannan. Maline married Samuel Francis Prest in Memphis, Tenn., on Sept. 26, 1942.

After moving to Erie in 1966, Maline worked with her husband in the management of Prest Lumber Co until Sam’s death in 1974, after which she ran the business until her retirement in 1982.

She is survived by her children, Samuel F. Prest, Jr., Belle Plaine, Charles M. Prest, Memphis, Tenn., Richard C. Prest, Salisbury, N.C., and Patricia Prest Robinson, Parsons, with whom she made her home for many years. She is also survived by three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A memorial visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010 at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home, Parsons.
