Ruth Eileen Nicholson, 90, Chanute, died Saturday, Nov.27, 2010 at the Chanute Health Care Center.

Ruth was born in Earlton on Nov. 2, 1920, the daughter of John Frank and Amy Strange Singer. She attended Earlton schools.

She was united in marriage to Denzel Nicholson. They later divorced.

Ruth worked at the Singer Caf√© from 1939 to 1958. She later worked at the Silver Grill in Chanute and Crown Drug. She worked for H.K. Porter for 25 years before her retirement. After her retirement, she worked at St. Pat’s Bargain Store for 17 years.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, and enjoyed gardening and was a cross-stitch quilter.

Ruth is survived by a daughter, Rosemary Greenwood, and her husband, Bob, Chanute; a son, Ronald Dean Nicholson, Phoenix, Ariz.; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandchild, two sisters, Loeata Fuller and Dorothy Ward, and a brother, Cleo Singer.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 2 at the First Christian Church. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 7 to 8 this evening at Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel.

Memorials in her name may be made to the First Christian Church Orphan and Widow Fund or First Christian Church Food Pantry and may be left with the funeral home.
