Merle L. Grady, 69, Chanute, died Thursday, January 1, 2009, at St. Francis Harry Hines Hospice, Wichita.

She was born Aug. 30, 1939, in Erie to Lawrence and Ellen Robinson Showalter. She grew up and attended schools in Erie.

She married John Grady on Jan. 1, 1956, in Erie. He survives.

She was employed as an electronics assembler, retiring from Everbrite Electronics in July 2004.

She was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Lady Elks and the Daughters of the Nile.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, eating out with friends and doing crossword puzzles.

Other survivors include her children and their spouses, Marsha and Norm Scholz, Roeland Park, Sonya and Doug Roseberry, Chanute, Jeff and Valerie Grady, Chanute, and Brenda and Brian Ikehorn, Humboldt; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and five brothers, Larry Showalter, Galesburg, Butch Showalter, Chanute, Skip and Randy Showalter, both of Erie, and Jerry Showalter, Wichita.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Church of the Nazarene, Chanute. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to the American Red Cross in care of the funeral home.
