Mehrle “Mac” McDermed, 92, Pittsburg, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010, at his home.

He was born on July 6, 1918, in Walnut to Floyd and Mae Lewis McDermed. He attended Walnut schools. Mehrle worked for P&M Coal Company for 40 years.

He owned and operated Mac’s Aircraft Repair for 30 years at Pittsburg Municipal Airport.

On July 1, 1939, he was united in marriage to Marie Myers in Girard. She survives at the family home.

He served in the United States Army Air Corps and was a member of the College Heights United Methodist Church, Girard Masonic Lodge and the Mirza Shrine.

Other survivors include a daughter, Shirley (Bruce) Lechien, Pittsburg; a son, Marty McDermed (Juanita), Sanger, Texas; and daughter Kaye Morris, Butler, Mo.; a brother, Floyd Jr. McDermed, Chanute; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by daughter, Marilyn; parents, Floyd and Mae McDermed; four brothers; and two sisters.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at College Heights United Methodist Church with Rev. Ken Butts and the Rev. Rick Prideaux officiating. Burial will follow at Girard Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Angels Among Us or Harry Hynes Hospice and may be left at or sent to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. Fourth St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
