Harry was born in Chanute on Dec. 14, 1924, the son of Orron Earl and Carrie Maria (Waddell) Patterson. He graduated from Chanute High School in 1942. He served his country in the United States Navy from June 1943 to March 1946.
Harry married Mary E. Behner on Jan. 1, 1946, in Chanute. She survives.
Harry was retired from the Kansas Department of Transportation. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chanute; Cecil J. Meeker Post 1654, V.F.W.; Boerstler-May Post 170, American Legion; Past Patron of Sunflower Chapter O.E.S.; Past Worshipful Master of Cedar Lodge #103; former member of Chanute Chapter of R.A.M.#21; Iola Council #81; Chanute Temple Commandry #44; Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, Fort Scott; and Mirza Temple #83, Pittsburg.
Along with his wife Mary, he is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Sullivan, Merriam; a granddaughter; four grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Stella Howell, Florence Phillips and Vivian Stratton; and three brothers, Kenneth Patterson, Earl Patterson and Paul Patterson.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Chanute. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials in his name may be made to the First United Methodist Church and may be left with the funeral home.
