Eugenia M. Cathers, 96, died Monday, Nov. 8, 2010 at the Chanute Healthcare Center.

Eugenia was born in Coffeyville on Oct. 20, 1914, the daughter of Paul and Mabel Bryant.

She was united in marriage to Dr. Edwin C. Cathers on May 28, 1939 in Coffeyville. He preceded her in death on April 26, 1978.

She was a homemaker.

Eugenia was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and was a P.E.O. Member, journalist, poet and an artist working with pastels.

Eugenia is survived by two sons, Patrick B. Cathers, Topeka, and Terry E. Cathers and his wife, June, Chanute; grandchildren, Jenel Eisenbart and her husband, John, Iola, Dr. Brian Cathers and his wife, Susan, San Diego, Calif., Lynne Sangimeno and her husband, Pat, Wichita, and Steve Cathers and his wife, Sandy, Yuma, Ariz.; great-grandchildren Tyler and Ethan Holloway, Brendan and Emma Cathers, Kaylin Sangimeno, and Noland and Porter Cathers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edwin, and siblings, Rosemary Scimeca, Josephine Jaminet, Paul Bryant, and Dr. Robert Bryant.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11 at the First United Methodist Church in Chanute. Burial will follow in Neosho County Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends this evening from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel.

Memorials in her name may be made to the First United Methodist Church and may be left with the funeral home.
