The NCCC men’s basketball team still needs to figure out how to maintain intensity for all 40 minutes of a game.
This observation was made by Coach Jeremy Coombs, after Panthers established a lead early in their Monday night match-up against Butler County, only to ultimately fall in the contest 82-72.

The Chanute Christian A boys basketball team traveled to Manhattan for the 2012 Shea Invitational last weekend. CCA started the tourney against 2A Veritas Christian out of Lawerence. Lady Panthers’ effort stifled by poor shooting

Players on the NCCC Lady Panthers basketball team only hit 22 percent of the shots they took on Monday night, making just 17 out of 64.
“You can’t do that and win a game,” Coach Kelley Newton said.
This poor shooting early in the match-up doomed the squad in a 64-44 loss to Butler.
Newton told players on his team after the game that they played hard, but that it wasn’t good enough.

BURLINGTON — Chanute’s girls basketball team used a balanced offensive attack to dominate the first half of its second game of the season on Wednesday night. The Comets had almost a 20-point lead at halftime of the tournament match-up with Baldwin at Burlington Middle School. ST. PAUL — St. Paul and Columbus played two games with nearly identical scores with the girls and boys splitting with their CNC counterparts in the St. Paul Early-Season Tournament.

Eighth grade team struggles through tough week
The eighth grade basketball teams were very active last week, traveling to Pittsburg, Independence and Burlington, to face some tough competition. The B team brought its record to 5-1 by beating Pittsburg 24-22 and Independence 23-21. The A team struggled a bit. falling 32-16 to Pittsburg and 28-18 to Indy. Humboldt boys score season-opening victory
The Humboldt boys started their season with a 53-48 road victory over Eureka on Friday night.
The match-up started out close knits, but the Cubs outscored their opponents in both the second and fourth quarters to earn the five-point victory.
Tanner McNutt scored 17 points to lead Humboldt’s offense, while Noah Thornbrugh had 14. Blake Crawford, Nathan Whitcomb and Caleb Vanatta each ended up with six.

It was a busy week for the 7th grade girls basketball teams from Royster.

Chanute wrestling aims to surpass State success this season

Last year, the wrestling team at CHS sent eight wrestlers to State, and saw one of its athletes, Sam Son, win a state title. Head coach Andy Albright knows that last year went well for the squad, and it makes him excited for Chanute’s prospects this year.

Royster 7th launches fourth quarter comeback in Pittsburg
The Royster 7th grade girls A team improved its record to 5-5 with a win in Pittsburg on Tuesday. The Rockets team had previously lost two close games to the tough Pittsburg squad, but got revenge by beating them 20-19 on its home court.
