Chanute residents should prepare for an increase of Shark sightings in the pool at the Recreation Center. In its second year at the public pool, the Chanute Sharks swim team has increased its membership from 60 swimmers last year to just more than 100 swimmers. NCCC coach Davis running several local basketball camps this summer
JJ Davis, the first-year head coach of the NCCC Lady Panthers, is overseeing several basketball camps designed to help local young people improve their game.
His first camp of the season is next week, June 17-19, from 10 a.m. to noon at the gymnasium at the Chanute Recreation Center. This camp is for boys and girls that will be entering 3rd-5th grade in August.

NCCC’s Goedert drafted by Pittsburgh
NCCC third baseman Connor Goedert was selected in the 34th round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Goedert led the Panthers in both home runs (11) and RBIs (51) this season, and helped the team reach the JuCo World Series. Quarry Stone Junior Golf had a good start to the season last Thursday in Oswego. In the 9-10 division, playing from 200 yards out, Drayton Cleaver tied for first with a 51, placing 2nd in a chip-off.

Class 4A splitting in two
A proposal to split up Class 4A into two divisions has passed, according to a press release issued by the Kansas State High School Activities Association on Tuesday. There will now be two divisions in Class 4A for volleyball, boys and girls basketball, baseball, and softball effective for the 2013-14 school year.

Legion team now scheduled to play in Burlington tourney on Sunday
The schedule has shifted a bit for the Chanute Post 170 American Legion baseball team. The team’s scheduled game on Sunday against West Franklin in Pomona has been cancelled. Instead, both teams will be participating in a one-day tournament in Burlington on Sunday.
