Otis Merle Smith, 81, of Moran, died Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at the Allen County Hospital, Iola.
Otis was born Feb. 21, 1932, at Harding, Ark., the son of Randall and Hester Loveall Smith.
On Jan. 7, 1956, Otis married Ruth E. Williams in Nevada, Mp. They were divorced in 1984.

A tip received by the Chanute Police Department led to a high-speed chase that ended with the arrest of accused murderer Brian Shields in St. Joseph, Mo.
The nearly three-month search for Shields ended Tuesday when he was ejected from the vehicle he crashed in an attempt to avoid stop-sticks placed in the roadway by Missouri Highway Patrol.

Clinton was born Oct. 7, 1934, in Gas, the son of Clinton Pruitt and Sylva Louise McClure Boyd. He graduated from Iola High School and Iola Junior College. He made his home in Iola except for living in Humboldt from 1973 until 1989.

Carl E. Mitchner, Sr., 91, died on Friday, April 5, 2013 at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center, Chanute.
Carl was born in Bedford, Ind. on Jan. 19, 1922 the son of Will and Fern Thompson Mitchner. On August 30, 1950 he married Opal Gilman in Jaunita, Neb.
