Given E. Steinbauer, 82, died Friday, October 30, 2009 at his son’s home in Pittsburg where he has been living for the past four years. Prior to moving to Pittsburg, Given and his wife were residents of Chanute for eight years.

He was born Nov. 25, 1926, and was raised in Breezy Hill, attending #9 Union grade school and Mulberry High School.

He was a WWII veteran and most known as the “smiling bald headed guy with a big heart” who worked for, among others, Pepsi and True Value Home Center in Pittsburg.

He enjoyed polka dancing and speaking German.

On April 5, 1947, he married Deloris Maniez in Girard. She preceded him in death on March 17, 2005.

He is survived by a daughter, Patty McDonald, Chanute; a son, Given M. Steinbauer and his wife, Jacque, Pittsburg; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Leo Steinbauer, Supply, N.C.; and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Deloris, and a brother, Fred Steinbauer.

Cremation will take place and private family services will be held at a later date.

Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
