Edith Rice, 93, Savonburg, died Thursday, October 29, 2009, at Labette Health Center in Parsons.
She was born Feb. 1, 1916, in Argonia to Chester and Alta Beebe Baker. She was the only one of 10 children to graduate from high school when she graduated from Conway Springs High School in 1938.
She married Dale C. Rice on Dec. 23, 1936, in Conway Springs. He died in April 1996.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Stark, EHU, Ladies Aid Society, and she delivered Meals on Wheels in Savonburg. She also participated in Relay for Life, where she was the oldest walker in 2003.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Don Elder, Chanute, and Nancy and Don Richwine, Stark; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel Wehlage, Chanute, and Viola Griffin, North Newton; and two brothers, Charles Baker, Neodesha, and John Baker, Mayfield.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Kyle Truman Rice; four brothers, Delbert, Chester Jr. and Ralph Baker and a stillborn brother; and three sisters, Stella Calloway, Ruby Stam and Gracie Baker.
Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. today at the Leanna Cemetery, east of Chanute, under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel.
Contributions to Stark United Methodist Kitchen Building Fund may be left with the funeral home.
